Over the past five years, the food truck industry has become a global lifestyle trend (www.mobilefood.my). Malaysia is one country at the forefront of this trend, especially in the nation’s capital, Kuala Lumpur.
However, when you think “food truck”, you probably don’t think of “social impact.” What if eating from a food truck also helped to give back to community? Well, Masala Wheels does exactly that. Incepted in October of 2015 as Malaysia’s First Social Enterprise Food Truck, Masala Wheels sells affordable and flavorful Malaysian cuisine and uses its food truck as mobile empowerment for targeted community groups.
Behind the creation of Masala Wheels is a very diverse and youthful team of four co-founders, all of whom are below the age of 30 and professionals in their respective industry. The team recently launched their newly designed truck in December 2016 with Tan Sri Irwan Serigar, Secretary General to the Treasury (Ministry of Finance, Malaysia).
As of one of the fastest growing millennial startup, Masala Wheels has definitely set precedence in social branding while impacting many.
